RULES OF WRITING CONTEST ENGLISH ACTION DAYS 2011


GENERAL RULES:
1.    The participants of this Writing Contest are Senior High Senior and Vocational High School students in Yogyakarta and Central Java.
2.    The capacity of Writing Contest participants are 40 students. Every school may appoint 2 students at the maximum to join The Writing Contest.
3.    The participants must wear school uniform and shoes.
4.    The participants must attend a Technical Meeting that will be held on Sunday, May 8th 2011 at 07.30 a.m.
5.    The participants must use English during the contest.
6.    The contest will be held on Friday-Saturday, May 13rd-14th 2011 at 07.30 a.m. The participants must come 15 minutes prior to the commencement of The Writing Contest. Otherwise, they will be disqualified.
7.    The participants must sign the attendance list.
8.    The participants should not bring food and drink to the contest room.
9.    Mobile phones should be set on silent mode.

SPECIFIC RULES:
QUALIFICATION ROUND RULES:
1.    The qualification round will be held on Friday, May 13th 2011 at 7.30 a.m at Sanata Dharma University, Yogyakarta.
2.    The type of composition is argumentative.
3.    The topics for qualification round will be announced on the Technical Meeting. (The general topics for qualification round are Copy-paste Trend in Teenagers’ Life and The Effects of Growing up with Technology)
4.    The length of the composition must be around 2-3 pages of folio.
5.    The time to finish the composition is 100 minutes.
6.    The participants should write their participant number as prepared by the committee on the top-right corner of the (1st) page.
7.    The composition should be clearly and neatly handwritten on every other line.
8.    The participants should not consult any dictionary (printed or electronic) during the contest.
9.    The participants should bring their own stationary, use a pen (not pencil) to write, and should not borrow stationary from and or lend stationary to one another during the contest.
10.  The participants are not allowed to ask one another during the contest. If there are questions, the participants are only allowed to ask the committee.
11.  The participants leave the contest room together at the time limit (participants who have finished their works have to wait until the participants finish doing their works).
12.  Maximum score of the writing contest is 1200. It is calculated from the total of the minimum requirement (1x100), coherence (1x100), and content (2x100), multiplied by three judges.
13.  The announcement of finalists will be announced on May 13rd 2011, and only on the contest place (Sanata Dharma University, not by means of mail or mass media).
14.  Final round will be followed by 15 participants from the qualification round.
15.  The composition which has been accepted becomes the committee’s and will not be returned to the participants.
16.  The judges’ decision is absolute.

FINAL ROUND RULES:
1.    The final round will be held on Saturday, May 14th 2011 at 07.30 a.m. at Sanata Dharma University.
2.    The type of composition is argumentative.
3.    The general topic for the final round will be announced on the D-day.
4.    The length for the composition must be around 2-3 pages of folio.
5.    The time to finish the composition is 100 minutes.
6.    The participants should write their participant number as prepared by the committee on the top-right corner of the (1st) page.

CONTRIBUTION OF WRITING
Each participant should pay Rp 40,000 as a registration payment.

PRIZE
1.      1st winner       :  A trophy, Rp 500,000,  and certificate
2.      2nd winner      :  A trophy, Rp 375,000, and certificate
3.      3rd winner       :  A trophy, Rp 250,000, and certificate
